Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has urged Nigeria and the entire African continent to work together in building a democratic, secure, united, and prosperous region where the rights of citizens are upheld, and youth are provided meaningful opportunities.
Governor Soludo made this appeal during the 13th Zik Annual Lecture Series held at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Represented by his deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, the governor praised the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe’s vision and sacrifices for the betterment of Nigeria and Africa. He emphasized the need for leaders across the continent to realize Zik’s dream by prioritizing good governance and fostering unity.
The Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, who chaired the event, highlighted Dr. Azikiwe’s enduring legacy as a champion of African emancipation. He urged contemporary leaders to emulate Zik’s selfless service to humanity, which continues to inspire Africans and the world.
Professor Bernard Odoh, Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, described Zik as not only a pioneer of Nigeria’s independence but also a steadfast Pan-Africanist. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to preserving Azikiwe’s legacy through the annual lecture series.
Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, the Guest Speaker, extolled Dr. Azikiwe as a visionary leader dedicated to the freedom and dignity of Africa. He described the 13th lecture as a rallying call for Africans to work towards a united and prosperous continent, reflecting the ideals that Zik championed throughout his life.
