Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, joined educators across the state to celebrate the 2024 World Teachers’ Day, held at the Teachers’ House in Awka. Speaking at the event, Governor Soludo emphasized the vital role teachers play in shaping the nation’s future, reaffirming that education remains the key to unlocking societal progress.
Acknowledging the challenges educators faced in the past, Governor Soludo praised their resilience and adaptability, especially in continuing to teach despite limited resources before his administration’s interventions. “It is our responsibility to value, respect, and celebrate the contributions of our educators. Their role in guiding and mentoring the children of our society cannot be overstated,” Soludo stated.
Highlighting Anambra’s educational achievements, Soludo noted that the state remains a leader in learning outcomes, with public school enrolment increasing by 18%. Anambra also ranks first in having the lowest number of out-of-school children in Nigeria. “Education is the bridge to the future,” the Governor added, reminding teachers of their pivotal role as the custodians of knowledge and the builders of tomorrow’s society.
In her remarks, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Comrade Chika Chukwudozie, commended the Governor for his administration’s achievements in various sectors, particularly in education, infrastructure development, and youth empowerment. She pledged the support of the teachers for the government’s continued efforts.
The event, which featured a large gathering of educators, was also attended by key figures such as Commissioner for Education Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, Dr. Nkiru Nwadinobi of the Anambra State Universal Education Board, and Majority Leader at the State House of Assembly, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme.
Governor Soludo took the opportunity to interact with the teachers, listening to their concerns and assuring them of the government’s commitment to creating a supportive environment for their professional growth.
