Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, on Thursday, February 22, 2025, joined the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, on a facility assessment tour of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) formation in Akwuzu. The visit was part of ongoing efforts to enhance security operations and promote transparency in the state’s policing system.
During the tour, CP Orutugu briefed Governor Soludo on the operational readiness of the Command, particularly in its efforts to re-arrest suspects involved in the murder of *Hon. Justice Azuka*, a lawmaker representing Onitsha 1 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly. He also highlighted new security measures being implemented to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As part of broader security reforms, the Anambra Police Command has commenced a reorganisation of the RRS unit. This includes systematic interviews of suspects in custody to ensure greater accountability, transparency, and adherence to due process. The initiative is expected to reinforce public trust in the state’s criminal justice system.
The reforms are also aimed at improving the operational effectiveness of the RRS in crime prevention, law enforcement, and evidence gathering to facilitate successful prosecutions. CP Orutugu assured residents that the police would continue to adopt a more structured and professional approach to policing.
Governor Soludo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Anambra residents. The visit further underscores the government’s resolve to support law enforcement agencies in maintaining law and order across the state.
