Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has inaugurated the Governing Council for Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University. The council is set to lead the institution towards achieving academic excellence and addressing current educational challenges.
The council members include Professor Chidi Odinkalu as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Amb. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Chief Christopher Ndubuisi, Igwe Oranu Chris Chidume, and AIG Chris Ezike (Rtd). Senate representatives on the council are Prof. K.K. Nwozo, Prof. Angela Nwamuo, Prof. C.C Chukwueloka, Prof. Obi Emeka, and Prof. Anselem Nweke. The Congregation representatives are Prof. M.N Chendo and Mrs. Eucharia Abafor.
During the inauguration, Governor Soludo emphasized the need to build an educational system that is fit for purpose, given the current state of university education in Nigeria. He expressed his passion for the university and optimism that it will become a beacon of excellence in Nigerian university education. Soludo pledged his full support for the council, expressing his confidence in their capabilities.
Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, presented the council members to the Governor, highlighting Soludo’s commitment to education through significant investments in the sector.
Prof. Odinkalu, Chairman of the council, affirmed the institution’s dedication to enterprise, humility, enlightenment, courage, and leadership. He assured that the council would focus on improving basic facilities, creating a green environment, and fostering sustainable dignity within the university.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries including Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi; Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh; and Commissioner for Special Duties, Barr. Beverly Ikpeazu-Nkemdiche, among others.
