Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has reaffirmed his commitment to revitalizing the sports economy in the state. Speaking at the second edition of the Anambra Sports Solution Initiative finals held at the Awka City Stadium, Governor Soludo highlighted the potential of the sports sector to boost the state’s GDP and provide numerous other benefits.
The Governor commended all participants and winners of the various featured games, noting that the competition is a crucial start towards mainstreaming sports at school, inter-school, local government, and state levels. He expressed optimism that the event would help identify talents who could compete at both national and international levels.
In an interview with ABS, the Chairman of the Anambra Sports Commission, Mr. Patrick Onyedum, emphasized that the initiative aligns with the administration’s manifesto to identify and nurture talents. He assured that the talents harnessed through the initiative would be deployed for the maximum benefit of both the individuals and society.
The Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba, underscored that youth development is a priority for Governor Soludo. He highlighted various youth activities initiated by the current administration, including the Solution Innovation District and the One Youth Two Skills program, urging more youths to take advantage of these opportunities.
The event saw the attendance of key officials, including the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, and President General of ASATU, Barr. Titus Akpudo. The finals featured a football match, races, and presentations of medals and trophies to winners in different categories.
