Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the wife of Anambra State Governor, has commenced the establishment of a healthy living garden in Awka. This initiative aims to support the ongoing Healthy Living Garden Competition and the proposed Healthy Living Community Garden project.
The exhibition garden will feature a variety of vegetables and crops that can be harvested within a short period. Preliminary planting has already been conducted using seed trays, with the seedlings set to be transplanted into the designated garden space once they germinate.
Mrs. Soludo is spearheading the cultivation process in collaboration with agricultural professionals, ensuring that all methods employed are purely organic. The garden will include a diverse range of produce such as eggplants, cabbage, cucumbers, watermelon, carrots, tomatoes, hot peppers, radishes, ginger, turmeric, garlic, onions, okra, beetroot, lettuce, and sweet peppers.
The primary goal of the healthy living exhibition garden is to demonstrate that many crops and vegetables, commonly believed to thrive only in northern Nigeria, can also be successfully cultivated in Anambra. Mrs. Soludo highlighted that the garden will serve as a practical learning environment for individuals interested in growing unique crops, enabling them to gain hands-on experience and subsequently assist others.
Additionally, Mrs. Soludo provided an overview of the upcoming Healthy Living Community Garden initiative. She emphasized her commitment to promoting profitable agricultural opportunities for all residents of Anambra, with a particular focus on empowering women and youths.
