Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the wife of the Governor of Anambra State, has launched a strategic campaign titled “Operation Clean Anambra of Substance Abuse” aimed at eradicating drug abuse in the state. The program, unveiled in Awka, focuses on combating drug distribution through strategic collaborations.
In her speech, Mrs. Soludo emphasized that drug abuse is a severe menace that has not been adequately addressed. She stressed the need for a proactive mindset focused on solutions rather than problems. Mrs. Soludo highlighted that the fight against drug abuse is a collective responsibility, acknowledging that the government alone, with its limited resources, cannot win this battle.
She raised concerns about the booming drug economies and their detrimental effects on homes and communities, urging for a serious and united effort to tackle the issue. The campaign, known as “The Healthy Living Overwatch,” will collaborate with local authorities such as the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade, security agencies, the World Health Organization (WHO), and various state ministries.
Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, echoed the sentiment that the campaign is a collective responsibility, essential for saving the youth from drug ruin. NDLEA State Commandant, Mr. Daniel Onyishi, commended the initiative, stressing the importance of grassroots efforts to curb the growing menace.
Barrister Titus Akpudo, National President of the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU), praised Mrs. Soludo’s visionary campaign and pledged ASATU’s support in sensitizing communities and collaborating with local leaders to ensure the program’s success.
The event was attended by key figures including Chief Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs, Mr. Celestine Anere, Managing Director of OCHA Brigade, the Anambra State Woman Leader of APGA, and various women groups.
