A local herbalist in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ismail Usman, is in critical condition after shooting himself in an attempt to test the effectiveness of a self-made “bulletproof” charm.
The incident occurred on November 23 in Kuchibuyi Village, where Usman used a shotgun to conduct the dangerous experiment. According to the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, Josephine Adeh, officers from the Byazhin Division responded to a distress call from a resident, Shandam Michael.
Upon arrival, the police found Usman severely injured and rushed him to Kubwa General Hospital. He was later transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for further treatment.
A subsequent search of Usman’s residence led to the recovery of the homemade firearm and various charms associated with the failed experiment.
Josephine Adeh confirmed that the herbalist will face charges for unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide, as outlined under Section 231 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria.
The FCT Police Command has also called for increased community vigilance, urging residents to report suspicious activities promptly to prevent such reckless incidents.
