The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a hunter, Ajegba Joseph, for attempting to kill a rival he caught with his girlfriend in her home at Ikun-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area.
The 38-year-old suspect allegedly shot the victim, who is also a hunter, in the leg after finding him in bed with his girlfriend. The incident occurred last month, and Joseph was arrested by the police shortly after.
While parading the suspect in Akure on Wednesday, Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Oladipupo, explained the circumstances of the crime. He stated, “A case of attempted murder was reported to the police. The victim was in the home of a female friend, a divorcee, when Ajegba Joseph arrived armed with an unlicensed single-barrel gun. Upon seeing the victim in bed with the woman, Joseph shot him through the window.”
The police recovered the firearm and arrested Joseph. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he is now recuperating.
Speaking about his actions, Joseph confessed that anger and disappointment drove him to shoot his colleague. He explained, “I had been hunting and had taken some beer. When I went to my girlfriend’s house to sleep, I saw the door locked and peered through the window. I saw my fellow hunter with her, and in a fit of rage, I fired my gun.”
In addition to Joseph’s arrest, the police also paraded a 17-year-old, Philip Emmanuel, in connection with the murder of businesswoman Mrs. Deborah Adene in Akure. Emmanuel, an employee of the deceased, confessed to conspiring with her driver to kill her in July and steal her ATM card.
Police investigations are ongoing, and all suspects will be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
