Councillors representing Oba Ward 1 and Ward 2 in Idemili South Local Government Area, Mr. Ebuka Chibueze and Mrs. Nkiru Onwuakagba, along with President General of the Oba Patriotic Union, Mr. Anthony Uzo Ejiofor, and Chief Vincent Chukwuma Ananti, an aspirant for the EzeOkpoko II throne of Oba, have praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo for approving the rehabilitation of the Nnewi-Oba Road. The announcement was made following the 31st Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) meeting.
Mr. Chibueze expressed his gratitude to the governor, noting that the Oba people would be eager to support Soludo in his second-term bid. “This wonderful gesture shows that the Oba people are beginning to enjoy the dividends of democracy. We will come out en masse to vote for Soludo because one good turn deserves another,” Chibueze said.
Mrs. Onwuakagba also commended Governor Soludo, calling him the best governor the state has had so far. “No LGA has been left out of the road construction and rehabilitation projects happening across the state. Soludo has proven that he is committed to ensuring development reaches the grassroots,” she said, adding that he faces no real competition in the next election.
President General Ejiofor shared his optimism about the rehabilitation, recounting past efforts by the Local Government Chairman, Mrs. Amaka Obi, to address the deteriorating condition of the road. He recalled that the Anambra Road Maintenance Agency (ARMA), led by Mr. Obinna Nduka, had begun repairs but were delayed by heavy rains. “Now that the rains have eased and the contract has been awarded, the road will soon take on a new shape to the benefit of all,” he said.
Chief Vincent Ananti echoed similar sentiments, expressing excitement over the rehabilitation. “The bad state of the road, especially near Afor Oba Market, has been a cause for concern, as it poses serious risks. With this rehabilitation, those hazards will soon be a thing of the past,” he remarked.
The contract for the Nnewi-Oba Road rehabilitation, worth N131,343,612.28, was approved during the 31st ANSEC meeting. This development is expected to bring significant relief to road users, particularly during the rainy season, when the road had become nearly impassable.
