Igboebisi Empowerment Foundation Awards Scholarships to 22 Obosi Pupils

The Igboebisi Empowerment Foundation has provided educational lifelines to 22 pupils from Obosi, Anambra State, enabling them to pursue quality secondary school education. The scholarship program, which prioritizes indigence, diligence, and brilliance, was celebrated during an event held at the Obosi Town Hall.

The well-attended ceremony featured prominent sons and daughters of Obosi and saw the selection of pupils based on their performance in the state Common Entrance Examination. Out of the 14 primary schools that participated, 16 pupils excelled in the highly competitive scholarship exam. Additionally, four pupils from Central School, Obosi, and two others, including a young engineer and a student from a disadvantaged background, were also awarded scholarships.

Venerable Chukwubuihem opened the event with prayers for the continuation of the empowerment initiative. Igwe Chidubem Iweka (Eze Iweka III), the traditional ruler of Obosi, highlighted the importance of investing in human capital, especially in education. He praised teachers for shaping the future of society and wished them rewards both in this life and beyond.

The President General of Obosi Development Union (ODU), Barr. Chimezie Obi, represented by Mr. Amala Egbuonye, urged the scholarship beneficiaries to make the most of this opportunity to unlock their potential. He also called on the Obosi community to continue supporting the foundation’s educational initiative.

Dr. Uche Chukwurah, a director of the foundation, emphasized that the goal of the initiative is transformational. “Our commitment to supporting pupils from poor homes demonstrates our unity and enduring humanity,” he remarked.

The event also featured cultural performances by local primary school dance groups, adding a festive atmosphere to the occasion. The highlight was the presentation of certificates of recognition to the scholarship recipients.

Several dignitaries and donors contributed to the foundation to support the educational expenses of the beneficiaries. These included Rtd Col. Agbanusi, Barr. Victor Nwokeabia, Lady Phina Onwuachu, Mr. Omezie Onyire, and organizations such as Kosisochukwu Iweka’s Foundation and ODU Enugu Women’s Wing.

The Igboebisi Empowerment Foundation, founded by London-based medical doctor Dr. Kene Igboebisi, aims to support brilliant children from underprivileged families in obtaining secondary school education.
