In a landmark move to address long-standing delays in insurance benefits for families of deceased police officers, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, today unveiled the Nigeria Police Insurance Claims Management Portal and presented cheques totaling N2.99 billion to the next of kin of 706 fallen officers. The event, held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, marked a significant step towards improving transparency and efficiency in the disbursement of insurance benefits.
The latest disbursement covers policy years 2020–2024 and brings the total payout under the scheme to N20.84 billion, benefiting 7,171 families since its inception. The IGP emphasized that the initiative is part of the Force’s commitment to ensuring that the sacrifices of Nigeria’s police personnel are duly recognized and their families adequately supported.
To further streamline the process and eliminate bureaucratic bottlenecks, the newly launched Nigeria Police Insurance Claims Management Portal (npfinsuranceclaimsmgt.ng) will serve as a digital platform for seamless processing of insurance claims. The portal is expected to enhance transparency, reduce delays, and provide families with easier access to their benefits.
In addition to the portal, the IGP announced that insurance desk officers across the 17 Zonal Commands and 37 State Commands will undergo specialized training to ensure effective management of claims. This move is aimed at strengthening the system and ensuring that families receive their entitlements promptly.
During the emotional event, IGP Egbetokun reiterated the Force’s dedication to the welfare of both serving and retired officers, stating that the sacrifices made by police personnel in the line of duty will never be forgotten. “Today, we take a significant step towards easing the burdens faced by the families of our fallen heroes. This portal and the timely disbursement of benefits are testaments to our commitment to their welfare,” he said.
The launch of the portal and the disbursement of funds have been widely welcomed as a positive development in addressing the challenges faced by families of deceased officers. The initiative is expected to bring much-needed relief to beneficiaries and restore confidence in the system.
