Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa has stated that he remains the national chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) party even as INEC according to him erroneously changed his name with that of Edozie Njoku in their portal.
Ezeokenwa stated this yesterday, August 30, 2024 when he appeared on “Politics Today”, a flagship political programme of Channels Television which was hosted by Seun Okinbaloye.
He pointed out that no court in Nigeria recognized Edozie Njoku as the national chairman of APGA even as he called on the Independent Electoral Commission to produce the court order that compelled them to upload Njoku’s name on their website. “Three Appeal Court Judgments validated the APGA Awka convention of 2019, which was affirmed by the Supreme Court in 2021, and there is no contention about the 2023 convention that brought my leadership into office.”
The APGA chairman showed the host and viewers a copy of clarification letter made by the supreme court of Nigeria and signed by Yusuf A. Babasoro, DCR (Litigation) confirming that the apex court had no time in the past pronounced Edozie Njoku as the party’s national chairman.
Ezeokenwa informed that the said supreme court letter was a response to the application of form 48 against INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu made by Edozie Njoku which he concealed because the clarification by the DCR litigation clearly stated that the apex court at no time in the past pronounced him the National Chairman of APGA and as such, the INEC chairman couldn’t have committed any crime.
The letter read in part, “(2) the court could not have made any order recognising chief edozie njoku as the national chairman of APGA. (3) since no order to that effect was made by the court, the national chairman of INEC did not disobey any”.
He alleged that enemies of Anambra state and other political opponents were behind the court cases against the party but affirmed that no amount of distraction can derail APGA government in the state and that Governor Chukwuma Soludo will contest and win his second term election in APGA.
