The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released data on new voter registrations for Edo and Ondo States. According to the latest figures, Edo State has recorded 119,206 new voters, comprising 61,684 males and 51,750 females. Ondo State has 58,708 new voters, with 26,447 males and 32,261 females.
The statement, issued by INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, clarifies that these numbers do not account for 8,847 applications for voter transfers into Edo State or 3,132 into Ondo State from other states. Additionally, transfers within the two states are not included as they are already reflected in the existing voter register.
INEC is currently integrating these new voter figures and inter-state transfers into the existing register. The Commission plans to release the final and comprehensive voter register for the 2024 governorship elections in both states in the coming days.
The detailed analysis of new voters, including data by Local Government Areas, age, gender, occupation, and disability, is now available on INEC’s website and social media platforms for public access.
This release follows the preliminary figures announced on June 11, 2024, prior to the period for claims and objections. The data has since been updated using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS), with the cleaning process now complete.
