The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Anambra State Governorship election for November 8, 2025, with the official notice set to be published in November 2024.
Speaking during a meeting with political parties, INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, highlighted that the Commission has already begun preparations for the election. He stressed the importance of timely planning and urged political parties to avoid last-minute rushes, noting that effective preparation is essential for a successful election.
With just 29 days remaining until the Ondo State Governorship election, Professor Yakubu outlined the Commission’s progress. Out of the 13 activities outlined in the election timetable, 10 have already been completed, including the presentation of the voter register to political parties in Akure. He commended political parties for complying with the process of uploading polling and collation agents for the election.
Additionally, the collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) has commenced in Ondo State. The INEC Chairman urged political parties to mobilize their supporters to collect their PVCs to ensure full participation in the election.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), Yusuf Dantalle, expressed concern over the state of the nation, noting that 25 years of uninterrupted democracy have left Nigerians disillusioned. He pointed to the rising cost of living and political tensions as factors dampening voter morale, leading to low turnout in recent elections.
Dantalle, speaking on behalf of IPAC, called on stakeholders to engage in voter education, sensitization, and mobilization efforts to ensure a free, fair, credible, transparent, inclusive, and peaceful election that meets international standards.
