The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has set 140 as the minimum cut-off mark for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for 2024 university admissions. This decision was made during JAMB’s 2024 policy meeting held in Abuja on Thursday. For polytechnic and college of education admissions, the minimum cut-off mark was set at 100.
The annual policy meeting, hosted by JAMB, establishes the guidelines and requirements for the year’s admission process. Stakeholders from tertiary institutions collaborate to agree on these requirements, which JAMB then enforces to prevent institutions from deviating from the established guidelines.
Ishaq Oloyede, JAMB registrar, emphasized that no institution is permitted to admit candidates below the minimum cut-off for their category. Institutions are also required to follow the Central Admissions Processing Systems (CAPS) guidelines. Any institution found admitting students outside of CAPS will face severe sanctions.
Oloyede also stressed the importance of adhering to the criteria set by the National University Commission (NUC), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the National Council for Colleges of Education (NCCE). These criteria ensure quality, accountability, and equity in admissions.
