Nigerian music producer Solomon Oyeniyi, popularly known as K-Solo, has attributed the rise of internet fraud and online sex marketing in Nigeria to the influence of mothers and celebrities.
In a recent interview with Arise TV, K-Solo argued that mothers often enable their children to engage in these vices. He recounted a personal experience where he confronted a mother who seemed complicit in her teenage daughter’s dubious activities.
“A lot is backed from the underground. The people who can help from the home side are the women; the mothers. I’m sorry, but mothers are the biggest disasters,” K-Solo said. He described an encounter where he saw a young girl dressed inappropriately for office work and confronted her mother, who was unable to justify her daughter’s attire and actions.
K-Solo also highlighted the role of celebrities in perpetuating negative influences. He stated that the glamorous lifestyles flaunted by female celebrities contribute to unrealistic aspirations among young girls, leading them to engage in harmful activities.
“The day mothers and female advocates start speaking against these vices more, there will be a lot of changes,” he said. “The day female celebrities who flaunt their luxurious lifestyles on the internet come out and let girls know how they hustle on the fields, a lot of young girls will go back to the drawing board.”
K-Solo emphasized the need for greater awareness and responsibility among mothers and celebrities to curb the spread of internet fraud and online sex marketing in Nigeria.
