Kanayo O Kanayo Defends Davido Amid Backlash Over Nigeria Economy Remarks

Veteran Nollywood actor, Kanayo O Kanayo, has voiced support for singer Davido amidst ongoing criticism of his recent comments on Nigeria’s economic state.

Davido, during an appearance on *The Big Homies House* podcast in the United States, highlighted Nigeria’s economic challenges, stating, “It is not cool back home. The economy is in shambles.” He advised Black Americans against relocating to Nigeria due to the current situation.

The remarks sparked mixed reactions, with some Nigerians demanding an apology from the artist, claiming his statements painted the country in a negative light.

In response, Kanayo O Kanayo defended Davido’s right to free speech and commended him for speaking out on behalf of struggling Nigerians. In a video posted on Instagram, the veteran actor said:

“@davido spoke his mind, isn’t it? Respect his views too. The Adelekes can feed for life, but it will be unholy if they assume all is okay because they are okay. Make una leave Davido alone over the comment he made. It is freedom of speech and he made the statement in good faith.”

He further urged critics to redirect their focus toward pressuring those in power to improve the country’s economic situation. Kanayo added, “Some people say he should apologize—apologize for what? Those who criticize us want the best out of us. Davido speaks for other Nigerians who cannot feed.”

The veteran actor’s remarks have added to the ongoing debate, with many Nigerians continuing to express varying opinions on the singer’s statement.
