Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo has expressed his concerns regarding the extensive military and police presence in the South-East region of Nigeria. In a video shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday, the actor highlighted the humiliation faced by travelers in the area.
Drawing a comparison between his recent journey from Ibadan to Lagos, Kanayo noted the stark difference in security measures. “I left the Felele Olorunsogo area of Ibadan at 7:15 this morning and arrived in Lagos state at exactly 8:15. Over the distance of 80 kilometers, I didn’t see any police or army checkpoints,” he stated.
He questioned why the South-East is heavily militarized, remarking, “Why is the South-East so militarised and policed that you can’t go 200 kilometers without a checkpoint?” The actor emphasized the impact of this heightened security on the daily lives of citizens, stating that travelers face humiliation and delays during their journeys. “Passengers on the Enugu-Onitsha route are often asked to come down with their hands up,” he added.
Kanayo further posed a provocative question about the region’s status within the country, asking, “Is the South-East still part of Nigeria? Have the representatives seen the state of the federal roads?” His comments underscore a growing concern among citizens regarding security measures and infrastructure in the region.
The video has sparked discussions online about the implications of military presence and the treatment of citizens in the South-East.
