The wife of Katsina State Governor, Zulaihat Radda, has launched a sustainable moringa farming programme aimed at empowering 3.6 million women across the state.
The initiative, under her *Safe Space Humanitarian Initiative (SASHIN)*, is in collaboration with the Katsina State Ministry for Agriculture and Livestock Development.
Speaking at the event in Katsina on Monday, Mrs. Radda emphasized that the programme would provide women with moringa seedlings and necessary resources for several years. She highlighted its potential to address food insecurity, malnutrition, poverty, and unemployment.
“This project is not just about farming but about creating economic independence, especially for our women and youth,” she said.
She also announced that participating women would receive *₦50,000* after successfully nurturing their moringa trees for three months.
The initiative aims for a *monthly production of 34 tonnes of moringa leaves* and a *quarterly production of 50 tonnes of seeds*. To ensure sustainability, SASHIN will establish partnerships between beneficiaries and local as well as international markets for regular moringa product sales.
Additionally, participants will receive comprehensive training and market access support to enhance their productivity and profitability.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Livestock Development, *Prof. Ahmed Mohammed*, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the programme’s success.
He explained that the initiative includes critical farming processes such as:

✅ Planting and watering
✅ Harvesting
✅ Sun-drying and packaging for local and international markets
“Moringa is a highly nutritious and versatile crop that thrives in our climate. With the unwavering support of the state government and our development partners, we’ll ensure that this programme achieves its intended impact,” he stated.
The commissioner urged beneficiaries to seize the opportunity and contribute to the agricultural transformation of Katsina State.
