Nigerian filmmakers Kunle Afolayan and Aremu Afolayan have finally resolved their longstanding feud. The reconciliation took place during the wake-keep ceremony for their late mother in Oyo State on Friday, November 22, 2024.
The brothers, both sons of the legendary filmmaker and theatre icon Ade Love, have been at odds for years. Their conflict became public in 2018 when Aremu accused their late father of living in poverty despite his fame. Kunle responded at the time, calling Aremu “stupid” in reaction to his remarks.
However, at the recent family gathering, Kunle declared an end to the rift, referring to himself not just as Aremu’s brother but as his father, given their 10-year age difference. Addressing Aremu’s friends, Kunle said, “I am not his brother but his father. I trained him, and I’m 10 years older than him. But love conquers all.”
In response, Aremu publicly apologized to Kunle, acknowledging their late mother’s prayers as instrumental in their reconciliation. “My greatest joy today is that my mother made us talk. She prayed without ceasing because I was the black sheep of the family. I’m sorry for putting brother Kunle through the Instagram backlash. It’s because I love you.”
The heartfelt reunion highlights the enduring power of family bonds and serves as a testament to their late mother’s wish for unity among her children.
