The Kwara State Government has announced the successful screening of 102,452 residents for hypertension and blood sugar levels as part of its participation in the nationwide *Project 10 Million*.
The initiative, which ran from October 28 to November 10, 2024, aims to screen 10 million Nigerians for these health conditions. Kwara State is targeting 196,913 participants, with the recent effort representing significant progress toward this goal.
Dr. Amina El-Imam, the Commissioner for Health, commended the residents for their cooperation and described the initiative as a milestone in preventive healthcare for the state. Speaking during a press briefing in Ilorin, she attributed the program’s success to robust support from various stakeholders, including traditional rulers, religious organizations, local government leaders, health workers, and development partners like the World Health Organization (WHO).
“Kwara State has emerged as one of the leading states in implementing this project across Nigeria. This achievement is a testament to the collective effort of our partners and the support of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq,” Dr. El-Imam stated.
The program, one of the state’s largest health interventions, targets adults regardless of gender and aims to reduce mortality rates associated with hypertension and diabetes.
El-Imam urged residents to routinely monitor their blood pressure and sugar levels, emphasizing the importance of early detection and management of these conditions. She also expressed gratitude to the Emir of Ilorin, the Christian Association of Nigeria, market leaders, labor unions, and media practitioners for their roles in driving the project’s success.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to healthcare initiatives that improve residents’ well-being and strengthen Kwara’s reputation as a model state for public health interventions.
