Labour Party in Edo State Unveils Governorship Campaign Council Ahead of Election

In anticipation of the upcoming governorship election scheduled for September 21 in Edo State, the Labour Party’s state leadership has revealed its governorship campaign council. The announcement was made by Kelly Ogbaloi, the state chairman of the party, during a press briefing following a stakeholders meeting of the State Working Committee.

The meeting, held at the party’s secretariat in Benin City, was attended by senatorial, local government leaders, and executives from all 18 local government areas of the state. Notable attendees included Barrister Olumide Akpata and Prince Yusuf Asamah Kadiri, the party’s governorship candidate and running mate, respectively.

Ogbaloi disclosed that the campaign council members would be officially inaugurated on Monday, May 13, 2024. Reverend Sam Omede was appointed as the Director-General of the campaign council, with Dr. Ehikioya Agboga serving as the Deputy Director and deputy director general for Edo Central Senatorial District.

Other members of the council include Senator Ned Imasuen, representing Edo South Senatorial District; Hon Esosa Iyawe and Hon Murphy Osaro Omoruyi, representing Oredo and Egor/Ikpoba Okha federal constituencies in the National Assembly.

In his remarks, Ogbaloi emphasized the careful selection of individuals with impeccable character to lead both the State Campaign Council and local government campaign committees in preparation for the forthcoming election.

He also addressed recent incidents within the party, condemning the alleged invasion of the secretariat by the Youth Leader, Ken Omusi, who has been suspended for anti-party activities. Dan Ero from Oredo Local Government Area was announced as Omusi’s replacement.

Furthermore, Ogbaloi announced the lifting of suspensions previously imposed on certain party members and revealed plans to establish a reconciliation committee to address grievances ahead of the election.

He urged party members to capitalize on the upcoming new voters’ registration exercise to expand the voter base and ensure broader participation in the electoral process. Additionally, he called for unity and support for the Labour Party’s governorship candidate, Barrister Olumide Akpata, and his running mate, Prince Yusuf Asamah Kadiri, in the election.
