The United Kingdom’s Labour Party secured a decisive victory early on Friday, winning the general election and surpassing the 326-seat threshold needed for a working majority in the House of Commons.
“A mandate like this comes with great responsibility,” Labour leader Keir Starmer told supporters at a triumphant dawn rally in London, moments after the results were announced, sealing the landslide win.
According to the BBC, Labour is projected to win 410 seats, while the Conservatives are expected to secure 144.
In response to the defeat, Rishi Sunak conceded and called Starmer to congratulate him.
Prime Minister-elect Keir Starmer has vowed to usher in a period of “national renewal” in the UK following Labour’s victory over the ruling Conservatives. “Today we start the next chapter — begin the work of change, the mission of national renewal and start to rebuild our country,” Starmer declared in his victory speech in London after securing a parliamentary majority.
