Legacy University Okija held its eighth matriculation ceremony, welcoming new students to the institution for the upcoming academic session. The event drew a gathering of the university’s management and staff, proud parents, students, and friends of the school.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo, represented by Honourable Golden Illoh, the Member of the Anambra State House of Assembly for Ihiala II Constituency, commended the university’s commitment to excellence and community service. He urged the new students to dedicate themselves to their studies, emphasizing the importance of education in adding value to both their families and society at large.
Dr. Leonard Nkameme, the Pro-Chancellor of Legacy University, expressed gratitude to Governor Soludo for his steadfast support of the education sector, which has contributed to the growth of the institution. He also acknowledged the dedication of the students’ parents, encouraging them to continue their support to ensure the university remains a conducive environment for learning.
Vice Chancellor Professor Ezekiel Ihionu reassured parents and guardians of the university’s commitment to providing quality education, highlighting the importance of their financial and spiritual support in achieving this goal.
A matriculating student, Emmanuel Emelife, shared his excitement about joining Legacy University and vowed to work hard to make his family proud.
The ceremony also featured significant developments, including the launch of Legacy University Radio FM, a new community radio station designed to provide a platform for students, staff, and the university community to exchange ideas, showcase talents, and stay informed. Additionally, the university unveiled a part-time weekend program tailored for working professionals and those seeking to further their education. The establishment of the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences, comprising departments of Nursing, Public Health, and Medical Laboratory Science, was also announced, enhancing the university’s capacity to train future healthcare professionals.
The event concluded with the administration of the matriculation oath, cultural displays, drama performances, and other celebratory activities.
