The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 49-year-old man, Nnamdi Anyaji, for allegedly murdering his 68-year-old mother, Mrs. Dorathy Anyaji, and attempting to take his own life in Amudo Village, Ekwulobia.
The incident occurred on April 11, 2025, around 1:40 p.m. Operatives from the Ekwulobia Divisional Police Station responded to the scene and recovered an axe suspected to have been used in the attack.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the altercation arose over a disagreement regarding proceeds from a cassava business. The suspect is currently in custody under close supervision to prevent another suicide attempt. He is expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
In a separate operation, police operatives attached to the Special Anti-Cultism Squad, Enugu-Ukwu, raided a criminal drug camp at Umuokpala Village in Orumba North Local Government Area. The raid, carried out in the early hours of the same day, led to the arrest of 12 male suspects aged between 20 and 29 years.
Recovered from the scene were dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, illicit drugs, and other incriminating items. The suspects — Ifeanyi Bernard, Emmanuel Ugwu, Thankgod Kelechi, Umeh Chidera, Aguiyi Onyeka, Onyeka Martin, Festus Ihezie, Chibundu Nicholas, Solomon Obiefule, Chibundu Daniel, Neke Shedrack, and Nwazufu Kingsley — have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further action.
