Former Super Falcons midfielder Maureen Mmadu has encouraged parents to support their daughters with football talent, emphasizing its potential to benefit both the players and the nation.
Mmadu made the call during the annual reunion football game organized by the Umuawulu All Stars Football Club at St. Mark’s Anglican Church field, Umuawulu, in Awka South Local Government Area.
She lamented the lack of parental support that has hindered many talented youths, especially girls, from pursuing successful careers in football. Mmadu praised the Umuawulu All Stars for fostering unity in the community through the event, which she described as a source of inspiration for aspiring players.
Chief Azubuike Ekweozor, one of the event organizers, reminisced about the golden era of football in Umuawulu and urged talented youth in the community to take the sport seriously, assuring them of the necessary support to succeed.
Chief Nnamdi Nwankwo, another participant in the game, noted that the event aimed to bring joy to indigenes returning home for the holidays while encouraging a culture of playing football for fun and community bonding rather than competition.
The annual event continues to serve as a platform for unity and inspiration in the Umuawulu community, celebrating both its football heritage and festive spirit.
