May Day 2024 : Government To Inaugurate State Civil Service Commission Soon – Soludo

Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR., has promised to constitute and inauguate the Anambra State Civil Service commission to give room for better management of civil servants’ welfare.

Prof. Soludo represented by his deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim made the declaration earlier today at the Dr Alex Ekwueme square in Awka during the 2024 International Labour day celebration which attracted the top government functionaries, members of affiliate unions of NLC and TUC.

Said he, ” We are a peace loving people. And the governor said I should tell you that he loves all of you. To be a state, is the responsibility of all of us. The state civil service commission will be constituted in seven days”.

Continuing, the Governor pointed out that anyone that wants Anambra to succeed, should support the government. ” It’s on record that once you retire now, you start receiving your gratuity and pensions.This government has delivered about 10km of road every month.
Anambra state is in the right hands.

He listed other achievements in the state to include: appointment of 18 New Permanent Secretaries, prompt payment of salaries and pensions, 10% increase in salaries across the board, recruitment of 5000 teachers and another 3,000 teachers, recruitment of 500 Doctors, Nurses, Medical Lab and Consultants and an additional 500 health personnel.

Others were, N12,000 non-taxable cash award in 2023; 2,000 laptops shared to Heads of public schools, 200 laptops shared to civil servants in the state, Enrollment of all civil servants, their spouses, and children under the age of 12 years into the State’s Health Insurance scheme, N20,000 Christmas bonus in 2023, N15,000 Christmas bonus in 2022.

Earlier, in a joint address of welcome by Nigeria Labour Union (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) Anambra State Councils and read by Comrade Humphrey Nwafor, State Chairman of NLC, he appreciated the Governor for resolving over 14 years court issues concerning the defunct water corporation and ANSEPA, appointment of Permanent Secretaries and efforts towards restoring pipe borne water in the major cities in the state.

He further saluted the MD/CEO of ASHIA, Dr Simeon Onyemaechi for sponsoring the NLC 2024 May Day medical outreach, MD/CEO of ACTDA, Hon. Ossy Onuko for supporting the programmes of NLC 2024 May Day Celebration and Hon. Patrick Estate Onyedum, Chairman of Anambra State Sports Commission for supporting various sporting activities that lasted for one week.

However, Comrade Humphrey Nwafor appealed to the governor to among other things constitute and inaugurate state civil service commission, employ more Local Government Staff, payment of outstanding pensions and gratuities, continuous payment of non-taxable N12000 to the civil servants pending conclusion on the talks of minimum wage.

Highlights of the event included presentation of awards and medals to winners of Labour Day 2024 sports winners, match passes by college of permanent secretaries led by the HOS, Barr Okwuy Igwegbe, affiliate unions of NLC and TUC among others.

Dignitaries that attended the event include, the SSG, Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, Chief of Staff to Governor Soludo, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, Chief Judge of Anambra state, commissioners, heads of agencies and others.
