The Traditional Ruler of Mbaukwu in Awka South Local Government Area, Igwe Peter Anugwu, has gifted his palace to the Pallottines, a Catholic congregation, for religious development and church use.
The Pallottines, officially known as the Society of the Catholic Apostolate (SAC), focus on evangelization and charitable works and were founded by St. Vincent Pallotti in 1835 in Rome. A delegation led by the Superior General of the Pallottines Worldwide, Father Zenon Hanas, traveled from Rome to receive the donation.
During the handover, Igwe Anugwu stated that the gesture was his way of expressing gratitude to God for His blessings and contributing to religious work.
Father Hanas, speaking on behalf of the congregation, thanked the monarch for his generosity, describing it as a reflection of the Igbo people’s kindness and deep faith. He assured that the facility would be accessible to all, regardless of denomination.
Anambra State Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, who is from the community, praised the donation as an extraordinary act of generosity. He urged the Pallottines to put the palace to good use and highlighted Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to Christian values and development in the state.
