Medical Expert Warns Against Excessive Sun Exposure Amidst Severe Heat Wave in Northern Nigeria

Dr. Shehu Sambo, a medical expert and director of the Primary Healthcare Development Agency (PHCDA) in Jigawa State, has issued a cautionary warning to the public regarding the dangers of prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, particularly amidst the current excessive heat being experienced in some northern states of Nigeria.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Dr. Sambo highlighted the health implications associated with the prevailing heat wave, emphasizing its severity and unprecedented nature in Northern Nigeria.

Dr. Sambo pointed out that the extreme heat poses various health risks, including heat stroke, severe dehydration, and kidney stones problems. Additionally, he noted that the intense heat could exacerbate the spread of infections such as meningitis and other health-related issues.

As a precautionary measure, Dr. Sambo advised individuals to stay hydrated by consuming plenty of water and fluids. Furthermore, he recommended sleeping in well-ventilated environments to mitigate the adverse effects of the heat wave.
