Minimum Wage: We Will Do The Needful Once Passed Into Law Says Soludo

The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has announced that his government “will do the needful and sustainable” with respect to the new minimum wage when passed into law in Nigeria.

He made the declaration yesterday, June 25, 2024 at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka during this years’ Local Government Service Week flag-off.

Governor Soludo stated that the civil servants must add value to the system for the benefit of everyone. ” As for the minimum wage, Anambra no dey carry last”, he said.

He pointed out that his administration had provided things like free child delivery for pregnant mothers in government owned hospitals, tuition free education to help civil servants cope with the current economic realities of the country and others like recruitment of over 8000 teachers, building of over 500km of roads, building of four new general hospitals and so many others.

Soludo informed that he has about 8.2 million people to carter for and urged the civil servants to eschew any form of corruption and inject value into the local government system

The former Corps Marshall of the Federal Road Safety Commission and former Aviation Minister, Chief Osita Chidoka in his remarks called on civil servants to eschew vices like “Nkali” – I’m bigger than you, “Nkpali” – Talking down on people and “Mmegbu” – taking decisions against people without proper considerations and imbibe Uche, Uchu na Egwu Chukwu in whatever they are doing.

Chidoka reminded them that they weren’t called civil servants by mistake pointing out that they are servants of the people that are civil and urged them to try their best in adding value into their jobs.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters in the state, Chief Tonycollins Nwabunwanne commended the civil servants for the synergy existing between them and his office.
He called for more partnership and collaboration from them in order to enable them deliver the visions of the Soludo government to the people in the rural areas.

Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, President General of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, Barr. Titus Akpudo, Traditional Ruler of Okpuno, Igwe Simon Okafor, Traditional Ruler of Omor, Igwe Chris Oranu Chidume, Igwe Ogidi Igwe Alex Onyido, TC Chairmen and others attended the event.
