The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has launched an independent investigative panel to probe allegations of bribery involving popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, and personnel of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS).
The panel was inaugurated on Monday to address concerns raised by a leaked audio recording last week. In the audio, Bobrisky allegedly claimed that intervention from his godfather prevented him from serving a six-month jail sentence at Kirikiri Prison in Lagos.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the panel’s creation is part of efforts to reform and ensure integrity within the NCoS. The panel, led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr. Magdalena Ajani, has been tasked with investigating not only the specific allegations surrounding Bobrisky but also broader issues of corruption and mistreatment of inmates by correctional officers.
“We aim to reform the correctional service,” the minister stated, adding that the panel is expected to deliver its findings within two weeks. “No one, regardless of their status, will be shielded from this investigation.”
Dr. Tunji-Ojo stressed the need for transparency and legal compliance throughout the inquiry, assuring Nigerians that the panel’s findings would be made public.
