Chidimma Adetshina, the first runner-up at the recent Miss Universe competition and Miss Universe Africa and Oceania, has announced her decision to retire from pageantry, citing personal reasons and traumatic experiences.
In an interview with Silverbird TV, Adetshina revealed her struggles during her pageantry career and her decision to relocate to Nigeria from South Africa, her estranged country.
“Finishing in the top 2 [at Miss Universe] is still a shocker for me,” she said. “Honestly, I am done. Pageantry was a real traumatic experience for me. People still don’t understand how I felt. There were times when I almost quit during the Miss Universe contest.”
Adetshina emphasized her desire to focus on personal growth and furthering her education. “I want to focus on myself and establish who I am,” she added.
The journey to the Miss Universe stage was not without challenges for Adetshina. She initially withdrew from the Miss South Africa contest after scrutiny arose over her nationality, which eventually led her to win Miss Nigeria. Her success culminated in a historic finish as 1st runner-up at Miss Universe, a moment that secured her recognition across Africa and Oceania.
Adetshina’s announcement has sparked widespread conversation, with fans and supporters expressing both admiration for her courage and hope for her future endeavors.
