Nigerian content creator and activist Adebowale Debo Adedayo, known widely as Mr Macaroni, shared that his 2021 arrest by Nigerian Police was a turning point, eliminating his fears and strengthening his commitment to advocate for the oppressed.
Following the #EndSARS protests and the October 2020 Lekki Tollgate incident, Mr Macaroni joined protests in February 2021 opposing the tollgate’s reopening. His defiance of Lagos State government directives led to his arrest, during which he endured dehumanizing treatment by police officers.
Reflecting on the ordeal in an interview with Chude Jideonwo, Mr Macaroni revealed, “All the fear in me disappeared after that experience. After being stripped naked, molested, and humiliated, I realized my purpose—to speak up for those who can’t.” He highlighted that his platform enables him to challenge injustices and call for change, emphasizing his newfound fearlessness and responsibility to advocate for the oppressed.
Mr Macaroni’s experience has since fueled his activism, using his platform to shed light on the struggles of the voiceless.
