Mrs. Soludo Emphasizes Family Values Over Fundraising at August Meeting

Anambra State Governor’s wife, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, has emphasized that the “August Meeting” should focus on fostering functional families through reflections on marital lessons, child upbringing, and women’s welfare, rather than prioritizing fundraising and other financial activities.

Mrs. Soludo made these remarks during the second edition of the August Meeting On Radio, which was broadcast live on Anambra Broadcasting Service (ABS) Radio and Television in Awka and Onitsha, Ijele FM, Wazobia FM, and streamed on multiple social media platforms.

Addressing the topic “The Role of Mothers in Modern Day Parenting,” Mrs. Soludo, who is also the founder of the non-governmental organization “Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo,” expressed concern over the state of modern parenting. She emphasized the need to reorient women and girls on child upbringing to ensure positive outcomes.

She urged religious bodies to use the August Meeting to reflect on and promote healthy marital values within families, instead of making it a time of financial pressure for women competing in contributions and material displays. She stressed that child upbringing is the responsibility of both parents, not just the wife.

Mrs. Soludo also condemned early marriage, advising parents to ensure their daughters are of appropriate age and to investigate the family backgrounds of prospective spouses before marriage. She warned against parents who curse or abuse their children, highlighting the negative impact on the children’s psychological, mental, and overall development.

Other guests on the program, including Dr. Mrs. Elsie Nwokolo, wife of the Bishop of the Diocese on the Niger; Lady Sabina Ndigwe, Director of Catholic Women Organization (CWO), Awka Diocese; and Dr. Chioma Mbachu, a Consultant Pediatrician, called on women to show love, pay more attention, and be more concerned about their children’s development.
