Mrs. Soludo Urges Eligible Women to Embrace HPV Vaccine Launch in Anambra

In anticipation of the imminent launch of free human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in Anambra State, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, the wife of the governor, has called upon eligible women to participate in the initiative aimed at combating cervical cancer.

Speaking in Awka, Mrs. Soludo emphasized the importance of the upcoming free vaccination program, targeting girls aged between nine and 14, as a crucial preventive measure against cervical cancer threats from an early age.

Anambra State government, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), has announced plans to commence the statewide HPV vaccination campaign through public health facilities such as general hospitals and primary health care centers.

Scheduled to kick off on May 24, 2024, in Awka North Local Government Area, Mrs. Soludo stressed the significance of achieving maximum coverage, particularly among girls residing in rural areas.

She urged parents and guardians to ensure that eligible children and wards receive the vaccine, underscoring the administration’s commitment to leveraging this critical intervention for the welfare of Anambra residents.

Reassuring the public of the vaccine’s effectiveness, safety, and accessibility, Mrs. Soludo highlighted its availability free of charge to eligible individuals.

Furthermore, she called upon educational, religious, and social institutions to bolster awareness and advocacy efforts for optimal participation in the vaccination campaign.

While acknowledging the importance of HPV vaccination, Mrs. Soludo emphasized the ongoing necessity of regular screening and early detection in the comprehensive fight against cervical cancer.
