The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) is set to collaborate with Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), on electric vehicles (EV) and compressed natural gas (CNG) technology, as part of the Federal Government’s initiative to promote cleaner energy and reduce carbon emissions in the transport sector.
During a working visit to ABUAD on Wednesday, NADDC Director General, Oluwemimo Osanipin, discussed the strategic partnership, praising the university’s technological advancements. He emphasized the importance of local production of automotive components and highlighted the role of electric mobility and vehicle conversion to CNG in achieving global environmental goals.
“The collaboration with ABUAD will be instrumental in driving electric mobility and CNG vehicle conversion, both critical to reducing carbon emissions and achieving sustainable transportation solutions,” Osanipin said.
ABUAD founder, Afe Babalola, welcomed the initiative, stating, “ABUAD was established to revolutionize education and innovation in Nigeria. This partnership with NADDC aligns with our vision to foster industrial growth and advance sustainable automotive technology.”
Top ABUAD officials, including Vice Chancellor Professor Olarinde Smaranda, the university’s bursar Dupe Babalola, and Director of International Collaboration and Linkages, Prof. Afolalu, were present during the visit. The NADDC team also toured the university’s Mechatronics Engineering Department and Industrial Parks to explore areas of collaboration.
The partnership is expected to contribute significantly to Nigeria’s industrial growth and promote cleaner energy solutions in the automotive industry.
