NANS Appeals to Federal Ministry of Education Over NYSC Registration Issues

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has urgently appealed to the Federal Ministry of Education (FMoE) to address issues affecting students seeking National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) registration.

Senator Akinteye Babatunde, President of NANS Headquarters, highlighted a specific problem faced by students who completed their National Diploma (ND) programs through the Daily Part-Time (DPP) mode and later enrolled in full-time Higher National Diploma (HND) programs. These students are being denied NYSC registration due to the “(P)” designation on their JAMB registration numbers, which denotes their part-time status during their ND studies.

Despite fulfilling all necessary requirements, including JAMB regularisation, the “(P)” designation causes the NYSC portal to reject their registration applications. This situation has led to considerable distress and uncertainty for the affected students.

NANS is calling for intervention from the Federal Ministry of Education to instruct NYSC management to recognize the students’ unique situation and facilitate their registration. They suggest overriding the system’s rejection of the “(P)” designation for those who have progressed to full-time HND programs.

The association stresses that this issue has been previously resolved for similar cases and emphasizes the need for clear communication from JAMB to educational institutions regarding proper procedures for regularization.

NANS has expressed appreciation for the Minister of State for Youth’s prompt response and is urging the Federal Ministry of Education to support these efforts, ensuring that affected students can proceed with their NYSC registration without further delays.

Additionally, NANS advocates for increased resources towards education and youth development, aiming for a brighter future for Nigerian students.
