NAUTH Aims for Top Three Health Institutions in Nigeria by 2030 says CMD Ugboaja

The Chief Medical Director of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, Prof. Joseph Ugboaja, has announced the hospital’s ambitious goal to be ranked among Nigeria’s top three health institutions by 2030. He credited the Federal Government’s strategic direction and support for facilitating the hospital’s transition to its permanent site.

During a press briefing at the new site, Prof. Ugboaja highlighted the significant contributions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Coordinating Minister for Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammad Ali Pate, in accelerating this milestone. He noted that these achievements align with the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Initiative (NHSRI).

Prof. Ugboaja outlined a 10-year development plan and strategic partnerships aimed at enhancing the hospital’s position in the national healthcare landscape. He emphasized that these improvements are part of broader efforts to enhance the quality of healthcare delivery in Nigeria.

He also underscored the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare’s commitment to funding and extending health insurance coverage through the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF). This initiative aims to strengthen the primary healthcare system and ensure that remote communities have access to quality healthcare services.

Speaking on the hospital’s first anniversary and the commissioning of projects at the permanent site, Prof. Ugboaja described the event as both a celebration of achievements and a reaffirmation of the hospital’s commitment to healthcare service provision. He mentioned that the ministerial visit provided an opportunity to address some of the hospital’s manpower challenges.

Prof. Ugboaja expressed gratitude to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his contributions to infrastructural development and advancements in the health sector. He also thanked philanthropist Sir Emeka Offor for his support towards the event, as well as traditional rulers and stakeholders for their role in the hospital’s success.
