Naval Outpost Onitsha Strengthens Ties with Community by Donating School Supplies

In a gesture aimed at fostering better civil-military relations, the Naval Outpost Onitsha has donated educational materials and stationery to Central Primary School Odekpe in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Commanding Officer Navy Captain Musa Danjuma Jarma made the donation today, highlighting that this effort is part of the non-kinetic activities under Operation Delta Sanity. This initiative is designed to strengthen the relationship between the military and the local communities.

Navy Captain Jarma explained that Operation Delta Sanity represents a renewed commitment by the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, to enhance security in the maritime sector and combat various crimes. The Civil-Military Cooperation exercise includes educational and medical outreaches, along with other community services, to promote a non-kinetic approach to maintaining security.

Emphasizing the current leadership’s dedication, Jarma noted that such community services would continue regularly and be extended to other areas. He pointed out that the donated educational materials are intended to provide relief to parents and assist pupils in their studies, urging the students to take their academics seriously and use the supplies wisely.

Jarma stressed that tackling crimes in the maritime sector requires addressing issues at the grassroots level, which is why the initiative began with school pupils.

Mrs. Leticia Ibe, the Head Teacher of Central Primary School Odekpe, expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Navy for their support, noting that the initiative would significantly enhance education within the community.

Chief Franklin Nwadialor, represented by Mr. Udoka Chukwurah, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ogbaru Council Area, and Mr. Nnamdi Xmai, the Ward Four Councilor of Iyiowa and Odekpe Ward, also conveyed their thanks for the unprecedented gesture.

On behalf of the pupils, Miss Chimamanda Ajene thanked the Nigerian Navy for their support and prayed for continued blessings for the Navy.

The event’s highlights included the official handover of the educational materials to the school and prayers for the Navy by the pupils.
