The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) recently made significant strides in its fight against drug trafficking, dismantling two major cross-border drug syndicates and arresting six cartel leaders. Months of intelligence gathering led to the arrest of syndicate leaders from Mubi, Adamawa; Onitsha, Anambra; and Lagos, as well as Cameroonian associates suspected of supplying drugs to terror groups in Nigeria and Cameroon. Among those arrested were Ibrahim Bawuro, Najib Ibrahim, Nelson Udechukwu Anayo, Ezeh Amaechi Martin, and Adejumo Elijah Ishola, with substantial quantities of cocaine, opioids, and synthetic cannabis confiscated.
On November 6th, NDLEA officers intercepted a shipment of 31.75 million opioid pills concealed in a container at Apapa seaport, Lagos, and discovered additional drugs at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport. A series of follow-up raids across Delta, Anambra, Kwara, Abuja, and other states resulted in arrests, including traffickers attempting to send drugs abroad and transporting them domestically in false compartments within vehicles.
In Ondo, Edo, and Plateau states, officers seized over 6,000 kg of cannabis from various suspects. The NDLEA also strengthened its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative, conducting sensitization campaigns in schools, workplaces, and traditional palaces nationwide.
NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa praised the officers for their efforts, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to curbing drug abuse and trafficking across Nigeria.
