The National Films and Videos Censors Board (NFVCB) has issued a stern warning that releasing music videos, skits, and films without its classification is a punishable offence.
The NFVCB’s classification system provides age ratings and content advisories for audiovisual content, helping families make informed viewing choices and protecting children from inappropriate material.
Shaibu Husseini, the Director General of the NFVCB, earlier announced in an interview with DAILY POST the extension of the board’s classification requirements to include music videos and skits.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Husseini warned content creators against distributing unclassified material. “It is also an offence to distribute or exhibit any film or video content, music videos, and skits on any platform without recourse to the National Film and Video Censors Board for classification,” Husseini said.
He further noted that the board is working with security agencies to track and prosecute individuals and production companies involved in the distribution of unclassified content.
Additionally, the NFVCB condemned the promotion and distribution of same-sex content on the internet, emphasizing that public exhibition of same-sex relationships is illegal in Nigeria.
