The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced plans to auction 15,325 litres of seized Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, at ₦400 per litre to help alleviate transportation challenges during the festive season.
Hussein Ejibunu, National Coordinator of the service’s Operation Whirlwind, revealed the decision during a press briefing at the Customs Training College in Ikeja, Lagos, on Saturday. The seized petrol, valued at ₦27.5 million, was confiscated in operations carried out in Lagos and Ogun states.
Ejibunu confirmed that Adewale Adeniyi, the Comptroller-General of Customs, authorized the auction, pricing the fuel at ₦10,000 per 25-litre container. All legal requirements, including a court condemnation order, have been completed to facilitate the auction process.
“This operation, which began on May 27, 2024, has yielded positive results,” Ejibunu stated. “The Comptroller-General has directed operatives to maintain this momentum until the activities of economic saboteurs are completely eradicated in the country.”
