The Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF) has appointed six zonal youth coordinators to enhance the development of the game among young players across the country.
The appointees, drawn from experienced players and coaches, will work directly with the NSF President on youth affairs until the end of the board’s tenure.
Leading the list is Ben Quickpen, captain of Team Nigeria at the last West African Scrabble Championship, who will coordinate the South South zone. Okagbue Ajuluchukwu, a top player in the Masters category known for mentoring young talents, will oversee the South East zone.
Hassan Olojoku, coach of multiple National Youth Games gold medallists, will coordinate the North Central zone, while Maxwell Chima will cover the North West zone. Frama Daniel will oversee the North East zone, and Joseph Okere, a scrabble facilitator in Lagos schools, will serve as the South West coordinator.
The coordinators will collaborate with the NSF National Youth Coordinator, Coach Samuel Eromosele, to groom members of Team Nigeria for the African Youth Scrabble Championship in Nairobi, Kenya, scheduled for August. The team is currently in the second phase of a virtual camp under Eromosele’s supervision.
The appointments take effect from March 1, 2025.
