The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has lauded the Nigerian Army for their professionalism, dedication, and sacrifices in maintaining unity and security in Nigeria.
Speaking at the 2024 West African Social Activities (WASA) event for the 302 Artillery Regiment, General Support, and 14 Field Engineer Regiment, held at the Military Cantonment Sports Ground, Onitsha, Governor Soludo commended the army’s efforts in ensuring the safety of Anambra State. He assured the state government’s continued support for wounded soldiers and the families of those who lost their lives in service.
The Governor also praised the leadership of Colonel Adamu Muhammad, Commanding Officer of the 302 Artillery Regiment, for recognizing outstanding officers and fostering camaraderie. He emphasized his administration’s commitment to an active partnership with the barracks and called for the sustainability of the WASA initiative.
In his address, Colonel Muhammad described WASA as an annual socio-cultural event held across Nigerian Army formations to promote social interaction among officers, soldiers, their families, and civilian friends. He noted that the event serves as a platform to mark the end of the previous year’s activities while ushering in new goals for the year.
The celebration featured cultural performances, boxing displays, and other entertainment. Highlights included the presentation of souvenirs to deserving soldiers and guests, the lighting of a bonfire, and a tug-of-war competition. The event drew traditional rulers, market leaders, and representatives of sister security agencies.
