Oside Oluwole, a 24-year-old Nigerian biochemist and auto dealer known as Khoded, has achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new Guinness World Record for the longest videogame marathon. The Guinness World Records (GWR) announced his achievement via social media.
Khoded secured the record by playing a soccer videogame continuously for an impressive 75 hours, during which he played over 500 games. This achievement surpasses the previous record of 50 hours set by Englishman David Whitefoot in 2022.
Motivated by a desire to support his local community, Khoded undertook this marathon to raise funds for a hospital in his hometown, Ijebu-Ode. The GWR highlighted the significance of Khoded’s accomplishment, noting that he broke the previous record by a substantial margin, which had seen gradual increases since it was first set at 24 hours in 2010.
In their announcement, GWR stated, “Before no one in the past has broken this record by such a large margin as Oside has. It was first set in 2010 with a time of 24 hours and gradually increased to 50 hours after being beaten seven times in 11 years.”
Khoded’s dedication and endurance in achieving this new world record underscore his commitment to both gaming and philanthropy, marking a notable achievement in Nigeria’s gaming community.
