Nigerian Red Cross Society’s First Aid Competition Concludes in Anambra, Champions Announced

The Nigerian Red Cross Society’s Awka South Division emerged victorious in the highly anticipated 2024 divisional First Aid Competition, held in Anambra State. This event, organized by the Anambra State Branch of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, marked a significant component of the upcoming World Red Cross Day, scheduled for May 11, 2024.

Taking place at the Nigerian Red Cross Society branch headquarters in Amawbia, the competition saw the enthusiastic participation of 10 out of the 21 divisions within the state. Attendees included observers, state instructors, trainers, and divisional chairpersons.

The competition encompassed both theoretical and practical assessments, with scenarios covering various emergency situations such as attending to unconscious, non-breathing casualties, unconscious but breathing individuals, as well as cases involving amputated limbs and fractures of the lower limbs.

Awka South Division distinguished themselves by securing an impressive 70% of the total points, thus claiming the coveted trophy. Their closest rival, Idemili South, secured 58%, while Aguata Division clinched the third position with 55%.

Miss Evangeline Enekwizu, a participant from Nnewi North, expressed delight in witnessing and participating in the contest, marking it as her inaugural experience and appealing for more frequent tutorials.

Chief Emmanuel Ezeobi, Chairman of Awka South Division, lauded the victory as a testament to their dedication and commitment. He commended all participating divisions and encouraged those who did not partake to join in efforts aimed at preserving humanity.

The competition reached its pinnacle as the Awka South team paraded through the streets of Amawbia, proudly displaying their trophy and chanting victorious songs, symbolizing their triumph and dedication to the noble cause of the Red Cross Society.
