Nigerian Senators Earn Over N1 Million Monthly in Salaries and Allowances, Reveals RMAFC

The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has disclosed the monthly earnings of Nigerian Senators, revealing that each of the 109 lawmakers in the Senate earns a total of N1,063,860 in salary and allowances per month.

In a detailed breakdown provided by RMAFC Chairman, M. B. Shehu, the monthly earnings include a basic salary of N168,866.70, alongside various allowances such as:

– Motor vehicle fuelling and maintenance: N126,650.00
– Personal assistant: N42,216.66
– Domestic staff: N126,650.00
– Entertainment: N50,660.00
– Utilities: N50,660.00
– Newspapers/periodicals: N25,330.00
– Wardrobe: N42,216.66
– House maintenance: N8,443.33
– Constituency allowance: N422,166.66

The RMAFC chairman explained that these earnings comprise both regular and non-regular allowances. Regular allowances are disbursed monthly along with the basic salary, while non-regular allowances are paid as due. Notably, furniture allowance (N6,079,200.00) and severance gratuity (N6,079,200.00) are provided once per tenure, while vehicle allowance (N8,105,600.00) is optional and considered a loan that must be repaid before leaving office.

Additionally, the statement clarified that, unlike in the past, only the President, Vice President, Senate President, and Speaker of the House of Representatives are currently provided with housing, excluding other public and legislative officers.
