Nigerian Skit Maker Mummy Wa Shares Experience with Sexual Harassment in Film Industry

Nigerian actress and skit maker Kemi Ikuseedun, popularly known as Mummy Wa, recently opened up about her experiences with sexual harassment in the film industry. Speaking on the ‘WithChude’ podcast hosted by Chude Jideonwo, Mummy Wa revealed the challenges she faced with unwanted sexual advances from filmmakers early in her career.

Mummy Wa, who rose to fame in 2023 through her role in Mr. Macaroni’s popular skits, shared insights into the pressures female actors often face behind the scenes. “A lot of people are asking for things that I cannot do. Coming from a place where I’ve already been told ‘this won’t work,’ how many people am I supposed to please? You could still sleep with someone in the industry and not get the break you hoped for,” she stated.

The actress emphasized that no woman in the industry is immune to these pressures, adding, “Even the slim ones who have nothing are still being asked for favors. But I can’t do it.”

Her comments highlight ongoing issues of harassment within Nigeria’s entertainment industry, prompting calls for better protections for women in film and television.
