Nigeria’s Super Falcons were narrowly defeated 1-0 by Canada in a friendly match at the La Quinta Football Centre, Malaga, on Wednesday night. The Olympic champions dominated the early stages and scored the decisive goal in the 18th minute.
Despite numerous opportunities to equalize, the Super Falcons were hampered by poor finishing. Paris Saint-Germain’s new signing Jennifer Echegini came close to scoring, hitting the woodwork seven minutes before the end of the match.
This marks the Super Falcons’ first defeat of 2024. Coach Randy Waldrum’s team will now focus on their opening fixture against Brazil at the 2024 Olympics. The Group C clash is scheduled to take place at Stade Bordeaux next Thursday.
